Mid-Autumn Festival @ The Gardens 2013, Gardens by the Bay (South)

Sometimes, the best things are free. After the disappointing mid autumn festival at the Chinese Garden, I turned my attention to the other event with lanterns, Mid Autumn Festival at the Gardens 2013. This was so much better than the one at Chinese Garden and its free!

The area with lanterns on display was not big, it on the grass patch just beside the meadow, and we more lanterns in such a small area compared to Chinese garden.

and these lanterns are really beautiful.

And there are dinosaurs as well, but in the form of colourful lanterns.

If the lanterns at Chinese garden continue to be disappointing, and else where has free but better lanterns, I wonder who will continue to pay for lantern festival at the Chinese garden.

Korean set lunch at Ju Shin Jung

Located at YESS Centre, near West , Ju Shin Jung is the favorite korean restaurant for me and my wife. We like their buffet BBQ when we are particularly hungry. If not, we will just have their set lunch and it will be very filling as well.

We had set lunch today and before the main course arrived, we help ourselves to the free flowing side dishes first.

Today, I had my spicy cold noodle while my wife had her beef rib soup. The spicy cold noodle is very very spicy and came with some cold soup. I didn’t really know how to eat the dish ‘properly’ and just do what I think make sense. The noodle is really very spicy, hence I just ‘wash’ it in the cold soup before I eat them. Even before I almost finish the noodle, my mouth is already burning.

My wife prefer something non-spicy and stuck to her ‘safe’ food, beef rib soup.

And we end our meal with a simple slice of water melon and lots of ice cold tea.

Pandan Gardens Leisure Park

I always drove by this part of AYE and notice the strange walkway. Today, finally found time to come down specifically to take a look as well as take some pictures. From now onward, whenever I blog on any parks, I’ll try to make a point to take a picture of the local map for future reference.

The Pandan Gardens Leisure Park is just situated beside the Sheng Hong Temple.

The park is not very big and most of it was actually running and cycling tracks but shaped very interestingly.

And like all parks, I will always try my best to look for macro opportunities. Unfortunately, there is not much chances, for such a small park.

Mid Autumn Festival @ Chinese Garden

This is an annual event I typically look forward to bring my family along. Its not free but normally I find it worth it because it is not crowded and lots of beautiful lanterns with different themes. Last year was good, with fireworks as well.  Unfortunately, this year was a great disappointment. There were few lanterns to begin with.

There were typically lanterns everywhere, starting from the bridge like these…

… and that’s about all this year. Unless these were counted.

The rest of the ‘main attractions’ are the dinosaurs, moving, but dull.

After the disappointing trip, I searched the web and came across the poster for this year’s event… and the poster said it well.. Jurassic Safari. No lanterns. Blame myself for not checking.

2013 NHB Motoring Heritage Day

I got to know this free event from Clubsnap, and took my family down.

I have deep memories of the Tanjong Pagar Railway Station, as this was the starting point of my yearly voyage by KTM train to visit my maternal grandma in Penang when I was very young. It was a trip that exceed 13 hours but I never failed to look forward taking it.

But with relocation of Malaysian railway operation to Woodlands, the station remains, the painting remains, but not the people.

But the organisers of the event made it special, especially for my kids. There was many fun activities, including painting, colouring and story telling…

… and even trishaw rides.

The old food stalls cease to exist, the librarian from Queenstown Library ‘took over’ for today.

Some of the railway tracks remains, just barely though.

At least one serious photographer is able to appreciate what is left of it.

Not forgetting the main event today was about vintage cars. I’m not a car person, so could not really appreciate, much less for ancient metals.

Anyway, my kids enjoyed themselves and look forward to more such events! Thank you organisers!

Dinner @ Pasta Mania, fun with food photography

Took my family for dinner at Pasta Mania and tried again at food photography, one area I performed badly as I usually can’t find the chance to practice.  I won’t bother to have nice photogenic cuisine if I eat alone and whoever have lunch or dinner with me (friends or family) usually won’t have the patience to wait for me to take a nice shoot before they start biting. Today, I tried something different, I ordered food for myself that wont’ be shared, so I got more time to shoot.

I share this salad with my wife but found time to take a quick shot.

This aglio olio is too spicy for my toddlers.

Hawaiian pizza is my daughter’s favorite and while she’s still busy with her pasta, I manage to steal a shot of the pizza.

None of them like pepperoni pizza so I had the chance to take a few shots.
